Oral argument on a proposed Bar rule amendment changing how The Florida Bar Foundation receives and disburses IOTA funds has been set for May 5 by the Supreme Court.
The court had originally set the argument for June 2, but then moved it up to May 5. The hearing will focus on the change proposed to Bar Rule 5-1.1(g), which governs the IOTA program. The amendment was proposed by the court’s Task Force on the Distribution of IOTA Funds.
The court also recently received a reply to the response filed with the court by the Task Force on the 14 comments — all critical of the task force proposals — submitted by various legal organizations and parties. That reply, filed April 5, was prepared by the Florida Civil Legal Aid Association, one of the 14 commenters. Its filing was endorsed by most of the original commenters, including the Public Interest and Business Law sections and the Bar’s Pro Bono Legal Services Committee. Those three noted they were not speaking for the Bar as a whole, but that the Board of Governors had approved their support for the FCLAA filing.
