13 apply for an open seat on the First District Court of Appeal
First DCA Tallahassee The First District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission has received 13 applications to fill the vacancy on the First DCA resulting from the resignation of Judge Bradford Thomas. The JNC March 18 also elected Nathan Adams to chair the panel. Amber Nunnally serves as vice-chair of the JNC.
Five Young Lawyer Division board races decided
Five races were decided in March balloting for Young Lawyers Division Board of Governors. In the race for Ninth Circuit, Seat 3, Melissa A. Bryan received 75 votes to defeat Latoya C. Brown with 67 votes. In the race for 11th Circuit, Seat 2, Magbis Sanchez bested Brittany Herndon 118 to 77.
Senate panel approves expanded protections for court officials
Sen. Jonathan Martin The Family Law Section scored a victory Tuesday after lawmakers agreed to expand a bill that enhances criminal penalties for “tampering with, harassing, or retaliating against” court officials. The Senate Criminal Justice Committee voted 9-0 to approve SB 1838 by Chair Jonathan Martin, a Ft. Myers attorney and former prosecutor.
