A medical malpractice lawsuit has been filed, shedding light on the potential negligence within a Florida healthcare facility. The complaint was lodged by Ayana Hart and her husband Terence X. Hart against Dr. Yocoima S. Plaza and the Institute for Women’s Health and Body, LLC in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, on April 3, 2025.

The plaintiffs allege that Dr. Plaza, an obstetrics and gynecology specialist practicing in Palm Beach County, along with her employer, the Institute for Women’s Health and Body, LLC, failed to provide competent medical care during a procedure performed on Ayana Hart on April 26, 2024. According to the complaint, Ayana underwent a hysteroscopy dilation and curettage with polypectomy using MyoSure technology under Dr. Plaza’s care. However, due to alleged negligence during this procedure, Ayana suffered severe injuries including uterine perforation and bowel transection which were not recognized intraoperatively. This oversight led to further complications such as partial removal of her small intestine and subsequent sepsis.

The Harts assert that these injuries have resulted in significant physical and emotional distress for Ayana, impacting her quality of life and ability to work while incurring substantial medical expenses. They claim that Dr. Plaza breached her duty of care by deviating from accepted medical standards expected from a similarly situated healthcare provider.
