Toni Roundtree, a resident of Pinellas County, Florida, has filed a lawsuit against the City of St. Petersburg for negligence after an incident involving a water meter box left her injured. The complaint was filed on February 19, 2025, in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit of Florida in Pinellas County, with the City of St. Petersburg named as the defendant.

The case revolves around an incident that occurred on November 13, 2023, when Toni Roundtree stepped into a water meter box at 1150 Newton Avenue South in St. Petersburg. The lid of the meter box was not properly secured and had been negligently maintained by an employee of the City of St. Petersburg. According to the complaint, this negligence resulted in Roundtree suffering bodily injury and various forms of personal loss including pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, and medical expenses.

Roundtree’s legal team argues that the City of St. Petersburg had a duty to maintain its infrastructure safely and failed to do so by not having proper procedures for maintenance and inspection in place. “The Defendant negligently maintained the meter box by allowing a dangerous and improper read and replacement of the lid,” states the complaint. It further accuses the city of failing to warn or notify Roundtree about these known dangerous conditions.
