Plaintiff Injured Worker Sues Maintenance Companies Over Negligence
In a gripping legal battle that underscores the critical importance of workplace safety, a Florida resident has taken legal action against two companies following a harrowing incident at his place of employment. Luis F. Telcy filed a complaint on April 9, 2025, in the Circuit Court of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, against Cypress Building Partners, LLC and Electronic Door-Lift, Inc., seeking damages exceeding $50,000.
The lawsuit stems from an incident that occurred on April 10, 2023, when Telcy was working at Nepa Wholesale, Inc. in Haverhill, Florida. While attempting to open a warehouse shutter door equipped with a motorized opener, Telcy was struck by a malfunctioning chain that broke during operation. The complaint alleges that this malfunction resulted in serious personal injuries to Telcy. According to the court documents, both defendants were responsible for performing work and maintenance on the door system prior to the accident.
Telcy’s complaint accuses Electronic Door-Lift, Inc. of negligence in their duties related to repair and maintenance of the door mechanism. The allegations include claims of defective or hazardous work practices such as failing to properly secure or install components and using improper parts or equipment. Furthermore, Electronic Door-Lift is accused of neglecting necessary inspections and failing to warn about potential dangers associated with their work. As per the complaint: “ELECTRONIC DOOR negligently performed the work… resulting in PLAINTIFF being struck and causing serious personal injuries.”
