Plaintiff alleges telecommunications giant AT&T of negligence leading to personal injury
In a dramatic legal move, a Boca Raton resident has filed a lawsuit against a major telecommunications company, alleging negligence that led to personal injury. Marlene Auriemma initiated the complaint against AT&T Corp in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, on December 30, 2024.
The lawsuit stems from an incident on June 22, 2033, when Auriemma was walking near a public sidewalk in Miami where AT&T was conducting utility work. According to the complaint, AT&T failed to maintain a safe work environment and left hazardous conditions that resulted in Auriemma stepping into a hole adjacent to the sidewalk. The plaintiff claims that this negligence caused her significant bodily harm and other damages.
Auriemma’s filing outlines several accusations against AT&T. It asserts that the company breached its duty by “negligently permitting or creating and leaving a dangerous and hazardous condition” at the site. The complaint further alleges that AT&T or its contractors were responsible for digging near their utility box without adequately warning pedestrians or securing the area. “Defendant failed to barricade or warn those lawfully using the walkway,” reads one section of the complaint.
