On May 30, 2024, Roberta Lieberman filed a nursing negligence complaint against Sonata Senior Living, LLC, doing business as Sonata Assisted Living Memory Care Boca Raton. The complaint was filed in the Circuit Court of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit in and for Palm Beach County, Florida.

Roberta Lieberman alleges that during her residency at Sonata Senior Living from August 4, 2021, she suffered significant injuries due to negligent care by the facility’s nursing staff. According to the complaint, Ms. Lieberman was diagnosed with dementia upon admission and was identified as a “fall risk” based on her health assessment conducted by Sonata’s staff. Despite this assessment, the plaintiff claims that the facility failed to implement adequate precautions to prevent falls and provide necessary medical care.

The complaint details several incidents highlighting alleged negligence. On February 23, 2022, Ms. Lieberman developed a stage two pressure ulcer at her coccyx. A week later, on March 1, 2022, she complained of right leg pain; subsequent x-rays revealed a right leg fracture. Nursing notes indicated no report of a fall had been received and an investigation was promised but allegedly not followed through adequately.
