A Pennsylvania resident has filed a lawsuit against a major Florida-based supermarket chain following a slip-and-fall incident that allegedly resulted in severe injuries. Laura Jill Stern initiated the complaint on October 1, 2024, in the Circuit Court of Palm Beach County, Florida, targeting Publix Super Markets, Inc.

According to the court documents, Stern was shopping at a Publix grocery store located at 135 Bradley Place in Palm Beach on June 19, 2024, when she slipped on a grape or another slippery object left on the floor. The fall caused her to suffer significant injuries, including a fractured knee that required emergency surgery. Stern’s legal team argues that Publix failed in its duty to maintain safe premises and neglected to warn customers of potential hazards. “Defendant negligently failed to inspect the premises for dangerous conditions,” states the complaint, highlighting that Publix should have been aware of the risks posed by such transitory foreign objects.

The lawsuit accuses Publix of several counts of negligence. It claims that the supermarket did not appropriately maintain or inspect its floors for hazardous conditions and failed to develop adequate safety protocols. Additionally, it alleges that Publix did not properly train its staff to manage high-traffic areas safely or warn patrons about existing dangers. These failures purportedly led directly to Stern’s accident and subsequent injuries.
