Plaintiff alleges negligence by retail giant over hazardous store conditions
A lawsuit has been filed against a major retail corporation following an alleged incident that left the plaintiff with significant injuries. Lisa Hawkins initiated legal proceedings in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, on January 14, 2025, naming The Home Depot, Inc. and Home Depot USA Inc. as defendants.
According to the complaint, Hawkins accuses The Home Depot entities of negligence after she sustained injuries on their premises located at 220 S State Road 7, West Palm Beach, Florida. On May 16, 2021, while visiting the store as an invitee, Hawkins encountered a hazardous condition—a hole or divot on the floor—that allegedly caused her bodily harm. The lawsuit claims that this dangerous condition was either known to the defendants or had existed long enough that they should have been aware of it. Despite this knowledge, Hawkins asserts that The Home Depot failed to adequately warn her of the potential danger.
The repercussions of this incident for Hawkins have been severe and far-reaching. She reports suffering from bodily injury accompanied by pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, and a diminished capacity for enjoying life. Furthermore, she has incurred expenses related to hospitalization and medical care and has experienced loss of earnings and earning capacity due to her injuries. These losses are described as either permanent or ongoing, with expectations that they will continue into the future.
