A Florida resident has filed a negligence lawsuit following a propane gas explosion that resulted in severe injuries. Christopher Devine lodged the complaint in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, on October 2, 2024, against several companies including Legacy Builders of the Palm Beaches, Inc., Ferguson Enterprises, LLC, Westcoast, LLC, Propane Pros of the Palm Beaches, Inc., and Boucher Gas Service, Inc.

The case revolves around an incident that occurred on October 5, 2022. Devine claims he suffered significant and lifelong burns to his lower body after attempting to light a grill at his residence. The explosion allegedly stemmed from negligent installation and maintenance by the defendants. According to the complaint, Legacy Builders was responsible for installing the barbecue grill and power burner but failed to provide adequate ventilation as required by building codes and industry standards. “Defendant…held itself out to the public…as being well-qualified,” yet allegedly breached its duty of care by not ensuring safe installation practices.

Ferguson Enterprises is accused of selling the grill without verifying proper installation conditions or inspecting completed work. Westcoast is similarly charged with failing to follow manufacturer guidelines and neglecting necessary inspections before service commencement. Both Propane Pros and Boucher Gas Service are alleged to have negligently connected propane supplies leading to leaks due to improper ventilation setups.
