Plaintiff Alleges Negligence Against Boca Raton Regional Hospital Over Patient Care
Jessica Irizarry, acting as the power of attorney for Julio Torres, has filed a lawsuit against Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Inc., alleging negligence in the care provided to Torres. The complaint was filed on December 23, 2024, in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida.
The case centers around events that began on December 3, 2022, when Julio Torres was admitted to Boca Raton Regional Hospital with multiple medical conditions including atrial fibrillation and acute kidney injury. At the time of his admission, Torres was intoxicated and required medical management. During his stay at the hospital, he developed severe complications such as an unstageable sacral wound and a deep tissue injury on his left heel. The plaintiff alleges these injuries were due to negligence by the hospital staff.
According to the complaint, the hospital failed in several key areas: assessing Torres’s risk for skin breakdown consistently; implementing effective preventative skin interventions; maintaining accurate wound records; and providing adequate wound treatment despite deteriorating conditions. Specific failures included inconsistent documentation of wound assessments and inadequate application of barrier creams or other treatments. The complaint also accuses the hospital of falsifying records regarding the sacral wound’s origin.
