A slip-and-fall incident at a grocery store has led to a legal battle in Palm Beach County, Florida. Cindy Ekberg filed a complaint on April 18, 2025, against Winn-Dixie Stores, LLC and Royal Palm Center, L.L.C., following an accident that occurred on August 7, 2023. The case highlights issues of premises liability and the responsibilities of property owners to maintain safe conditions for their patrons.

The complaint was lodged in the Circuit Court of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County. According to the document, Ekberg was walking on a painted walkway at the premises located at 1135 Royal Palm Beach Blvd., when she slipped and fell due to its slippery condition. The plaintiff claims that both defendants were negligent in maintaining the walkway and failed to warn visitors about its hazardous state when wet. Ekberg’s lawsuit seeks damages exceeding $50,000 for injuries sustained from the fall.

Ekberg alleges that Winn-Dixie Stores, LLC and Royal Palm Center, L.L.C. breached their duty of care by not implementing adequate safety measures or warning systems for dangerous conditions on their property. “Negligently failing to devise and/or implement policies and procedures” is cited as one of many lapses by the defendants. The plaintiff asserts that these failures directly resulted in her injuries, which include pain and suffering, disability, mental anguish, loss of earnings capacity, and medical expenses.
