New Jersey Woman Sues Florida Vacation Rental Company Over Poolside Accident
A New Jersey woman is suing a Florida vacation rental company after a poolside accident left her with serious injuries. Marilyn Bruce filed the complaint against Hallway Beach, Inc., also known as Hallway, Inc., in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pinellas County, Florida, on August 8, 2024.
The lawsuit stems from an incident that occurred in August 2022 when Bruce and her family were vacationing at Indian Rocks Beach, Florida. According to the complaint, Bruce had rented a vacation unit located at 1302 Beach Trail, owned by Hallway Beach, Inc. On August 10, 2022, while enjoying the pool facility attached to her rental unit, Bruce slipped and fell on the concrete surrounding the pool. The fall resulted in a loud crack as her head hit the concrete forcefully. Immediate symptoms included a significant lump on her head and severe neck pain. An ambulance transported Bruce to Largo Medical Center where she was diagnosed with a hematoma of the occipital region of her scalp, acute cervical sprain, and occipital headache.
Bruce’s complaint alleges that Hallway Beach failed to maintain safe conditions around the pool area. Specifically, it accuses Hallway of neglecting its duty to inspect and maintain the pool facility properly and failing to warn guests about potential hazards. “Hallway breached those duties by failing to inspect the pool facility where Plaintiff fell; failing to maintain it in a reasonably safe condition; failing to warn Plaintiff of dangerous conditions; and failing to remove unsafe conditions,” reads part of the complaint.
