Local Resident Sues Apartment Complex Over Negligence Leading to Injury
A recent court filing reveals a dramatic personal injury case involving a local resident and a well-known apartment complex. On July 26, 2024, Nikishea Wright filed a complaint in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pinellas County, Florida, against Spring Lake Apartments, LLLP.
The complaint centers around an incident that occurred on May 28, 2023. Wright alleges that while she was lawfully present on the premises of Spring Lake Apartments at 3275 Pinellas Point Drive South in St. Petersburg, Florida, she tripped and fell over an unlevel piece of plywood lying on the ground. The lawsuit claims that this piece of plywood was not properly secured and protruded dangerously from the ground. Wright’s attorney argues that Spring Lake Apartments failed to exercise reasonable care for her safety by allowing such hazardous conditions to exist.
According to the filing, Wright asserts multiple counts of negligence against Spring Lake Apartments. She accuses the defendant of negligently creating or allowing the dangerous condition to persist, failing to maintain or inspect the walkway area adequately, and neglecting to warn her about the hazard. Specifically, the complaint states: “SPRING LAKE breached the duty owed to WRIGHT by committing one or more of the following omissions or commissions,” including failing to secure or remove the dangerous plywood and not providing adequate warnings about its presence.
