A slip-and-fall incident at a popular supermarket chain has led to a lawsuit seeking over $50,000 in damages. Laketta Wallace filed the complaint against Publix Super Markets, Inc. in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pinellas County, Florida on August 12, 2024.

The lawsuit stems from an incident that occurred on September 11, 2023, when Wallace visited a Publix store located at 2514 McMullen Booth Rd., Clearwater, Florida. According to the complaint, Wallace was lawfully present as a business invitee when she slipped and fell on a liquid substance near the customer service desk area. The plaintiff alleges that Publix failed to maintain its premises in a reasonably safe condition and neglected to warn her of dangerous conditions on their property.

Wallace’s complaint outlines several specific allegations against Publix. These include claims that the supermarket negligently failed to maintain or adequately inspect the flooring, creating hazardous conditions for customers. “Defendant breached its duty to Plaintiff by negligently failing to maintain or adequately maintain the flooring,” states the complaint. Additionally, it accuses Publix of not having adequate staff assigned to inspect and maintain the flooring for dangerous conditions and failing to follow its own corporate policies regarding floor safety.
