City Accused of Negligence After Resident Suffers Severe Injuries from Sidewalk Fall
Debbie Kreiter has filed a lawsuit against the City of St. Petersburg and CW St. Pete, LLC, claiming negligence after suffering severe injuries from a fall on a public sidewalk. The complaint was filed in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pinellas County, Florida, on May 1, 2025. Kreiter alleges that both defendants failed to maintain and repair the hazardous sidewalk condition that led to her accident.
According to the complaint, on July 31, 2024, Debbie Kreiter was walking along the 300 block of 3rd Street North near the intersection of 3rd Avenue North in St. Petersburg when she tripped over a significantly raised and broken section of the sidewalk. This dangerous condition caused her to fall forward onto the pavement, resulting in serious injuries. The lawsuit asserts that this hazardous section of sidewalk was adjacent to property owned by CW St. Pete, LLC and under the maintenance responsibility of the City of St. Petersburg.
Kreiter’s legal team argues that both defendants were aware or should have been aware of the dangerous condition due to its visible nature and duration but failed to take appropriate action. The City of St. Petersburg is accused of neglecting its duty to inspect, level, repair, or warn pedestrians about such hazards on public sidewalks. Similarly, CW St. Pete, LLC is charged with failing to monitor or report this condition and not taking reasonable steps to prevent it from posing a risk to pedestrians.
