The legislature would redirect $28.8 million in fines and fees from state coffers to directly fund the daily operations of Florida’s court clerks under a measure that has reached Gov. Ron DeSantis.

HB 1077 by Rep. Adam Botana, R-Bonita Springs, was one of 17 bills that the legislature forwarded to DeSantis on Monday after approving them in the January session.

The bill is part of a multi-year effort to stabilize funding for Florida’s clerks of court. Another provision would authorize a driver’s license reinstatement pilot program in Miami-Dade County.
