Supreme Court monitors civil justice reforms
The Supreme Court is monitoring civil justice reforms that took effect with the New Year, and remains open to further revisions, Chief Justice Carlos Muñiz continues to stress in public appearances.
At a Supreme Court Historical Society Dinner on January 17, Muñiz said the reforms, contained in amendments to court procedural rules, are designed to ensure more efficient case management from the outset, impose meaningful deadlines, and create a fairer discovery process.
“Our goal is to minimize what one judge has labeled ‘process exploitation’ — which can cause civil litigation to be unreasonably slow and which can make the process itself a form of punishment,” Muñiz said.
