Supreme Court Considers Final Revisions to Civil Justice Reforms Before January 1 Deadline
Florida Bar rules committees, the Business Law Section, legal aid groups, a Tampa circuit judge, and others are asking the Supreme Court to further revise civil justice reforms before they take effect January 1.
In November 7 oral arguments, rules committee members pledged to work quickly to craft amendments they say are necessary, including adding enforcement mechanisms to a new discovery rule, “untethering” the filing and response deadlines from the date of the hearing in motions for summary judgment, and defining a “good faith effort” to confer with opposing counsel.
Chief Justice Carlos Muñiz repeatedly thanked the participants and pledged to consider the proposals.
