Supreme Court amends rules on how it determines the need for new judges
The Florida Supreme Court has adopted amendments to Florida Rule of General Practice and Judicial Administration Rule 2.240 (determination of the need for additional judges) which sets out a list of secondary factors the court may consider if additional trial judges are needed in a particular jurisdiction.
The unanimous court acted on September 1 in Case No. SC21-1601.
The amended rule is based on a report from the Trial Court Performance and Accountability Commission on November 17, 2021, as a response to a directive by the Supreme Court to suggest modifications based on a 2016 study by the Judicial Needs Assessment Committee.
