Florida’s electronic court filing system is on the brink of major updates as sweeping procedural reforms and fee changes take effect July 1. From standardized correction queue rules to a revised fee structure and plans to expand access to case files, the Florida Courts E-Filing Authority is preparing for a pivotal year of modernization.

These changes were outlined during the Authority’s 15th Annual Meeting held June 16 in Orlando. Doug Chorvat Jr., Hernando County Clerk and Comptroller and chair of the Authority, delivered the annual report, highlighting the Portal’s rapid growth, operational milestones, and evolving role in Florida’s court system.

Since its inception in 2010, the Florida Courts E-Filing Portal (Portal) has exceeded expectations in both functionality and user adoption, according to the Authority. Notably, the system was initially developed without the use of taxpayer funds. Florida Court Clerks & Comptrollers (FCCC) committed to building the E-Filing Portal at no cost to the Authority or the court, leveraging its internal technology services to support its development. Between 2010 and 2017, FCCC contributed $7.48 million in donated services, enabling the Portal to launch independent of public funding.
