Rules panel ‘thrilled’ for the opportunity to review sweeping proposals to streamlining the civil justice system
The chair of the Civil Procedure Rules Committee said he’s grateful the Supreme Court declined to order a wholesale adoption of a Judicial Management Council workgroup’s sweeping proposal for streamlining Florida’s civil justice system.
Saying “additional refinements” are needed, justices in a January 13 order said they would make a “series of phased referrals” to rules committees and other stakeholders.
The referral to the Civil Procedure Rules Committee sets a July 3 deadline to recommend ways to refine the workgroup’s proposed amendments to Rule 1.200 (Pretrial Procedure); Rule 1.201 (Complex Litigation); Rule 1.440 (Setting Action for Trial); Rule 1.280 (General Provisions Governing Discovery); and Rule 1.460 (Continuances).
