Plaque will mark the location of Florida A&M University’s original college of law
FAMU College of Law’s original building in Tallahassee was dedicated in 1954 and had three classrooms, a library, student lounge, moot court room, and faculty offices, according to the university.
Descendants of pioneering civil rights attorney Virgil Hawkins are scheduled to attend a September 9 plaque dedication ceremony at Florida A&M University’s Tallahassee campus, organizers say.
The plaque will mark the location of FAMU’s original law school, which was built after Hawkins filed a suit in 1949 challenging the University of Florida law school’s race-based admissions policy.
