OSCA’s 2023 Champion’s Summit focuses on opioid epidemic
As the drug overdose epidemic continues to worsen in the United States, the Office of the State Courts Administrator and the Florida Courts Opioid & Stimulants Response will host a virtual training event designed to equip courts and justice system partners with information on the epidemic and tools for combating it.
“The 2023 Champion’s Summit” is a series of virtual events each Friday in September.
The opioid epidemic has reached a critical mass. Nationally, the number of overdose deaths grew by more than 15% in 2021 and Florida stood at the heart of the crisis. The Florida Medical Examiners Commission says Florida saw a 10% increase in deaths from an accidental drug overdose from 7,525 in 2020 to 8,257 in 2021.
