The new Sixth District Court of Appeal is generating valuable opportunities to advance, or restart, a legal career, says an appellate judge who is helping oversee the implementation.

The new Lakeland-based appellate court is hiring staff attorneys — including “elbow clerks” who will work directly with an appellate judge, and central staff attorneys — says Fifth District Court of Appeal Judge Dan Traver.

“It is a unique opportunity for people who are looking to learn how judges make decisions from the inside,” he said. “It’s how I started my legal career.”
