George Elias in 1955. At age 23, in his first job out of law school, Elias found himself sitting before the U.S. Supreme Court at the solicitor general’s table on the team that handled treason cases before Chief Justice Earl Warren and Justice Hugo Black.

In a world searching for purpose and integrity, George Elias stands out. The saying, “He has an angel on his shoulder,” couldn’t be truer for Elias — and clearly, he listens when it whispers.

Now approaching his 99th birthday, Elias has spent more than seven decades practicing law, mentoring generations of attorneys, and shaping his community through charitable work. Long before “professionalism” became a formal Bar initiative, he lived it — offering guidance to young lawyers, giving generously of his time and expertise, and dedicating himself to causes ranging from his church to major national charities.
