AS THE SAYING GOES, a journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step. Jacksonville attorneys Kelly B. Mathis and Bruce Stutsman began their journey to walk the approximately 2,200-mile Appalachian National Scenic Trial, the longest hiking-only footpath in the world, a decade ago. The two walked the trail section by section, from Georgia to Maine. Here they are at their moment of triumph, at journey’s end, on the top of Mt. Katahdin, Maine. “When the going gets tough, just keep on hiking,” Mathis said.
