Judge Edwin Scales III has been elected chief judge of the Third District Court of Appeal, effective July 1.
Judge Scales was appointed to the court in December 2013, by Gov. Rick Scott, making Scales the first Monroe County resident appointed to the court. Before his appointment, Judge Scales was a sole practitioner in Key West, practicing appellate and commercial litigation, land use law, and mediation.
