The House has approved a major consumer data privacy measure, despite warnings Florida businesses would be forced to pay billions in compliance costs.

The House voted 103-8 on March 2 to approve HB 9 by Rep. Fiona McFarland, R-Sarasota.

“We live in a digital information age and there’s a tug of war over who owns your personal information,” she said. “We should be proud to stand for the personal privacy rights of all Floridians.”
