Governor vetoes courthouse funding, but creation of the new Sixth DCA goes forward
Gov. Ron DeSantis’ $3.1 billion in vetoes includes $50 million for a new Sixth District Court of Appeal headquarters in Lakeland and $15 million for a Second District Court of Appeal facility in Sarasota — but most court spending items remain intact.
According to the Office of State Courts Administrator, all court spending priorities that lawmakers approved survived, including a 10% pay raise for circuit and county court judges that Chief Justice Charles Canady identified as his top priority.
DeSantis’ vetoes whittled a proposed $112.1 billion budget for FY 2022-23 to $109.9 billion, with many other brick-and-mortar projects also falling by the wayside, including $645 million for a new prison, and $194 million for a new prison hospital.
