Deadline extended for public members to apply to sit on the Board of Bar Examiners
Members of the public are invited to volunteer on or before April 7, 2023, for one vacancy on the Florida Board of Bar Examiners.
A joint screening committee of Florida Bar Board of Governors members and Board of Bar Examiners members will recommend three nominees for the vacancy to the Supreme Court of Florida. The Supreme Court of Florida will appoint one public member to serve on the Florida Board of Bar Examiners for a three-year term commencing November 1, 2023, and expiring on October 31, 2026. The board ensures that applicants seeking admission to The Florida Bar have met the requirements of the rules with regard to character and fitness, education, and technical competence prior to recommending to the Supreme Court of Florida an applicant’s admission to The Florida Bar.
A public member volunteer must have a bachelor’s degree and be deemed qualified by the court to assess whether applicants for admission to The Florida Bar meet the essential eligibility requirements for admission under the Rules of the Supreme Court Relating to Admissions to the Bar. Past public member volunteers have possessed experience in education, medicine, psychology, science, accounting, statistical analysis, retired military, and various other professions. Lawyers are not eligible.
