Fifth DCA Courthouse

A Volusia County lawyer and an Orlando lawmaker are asking the Supreme Court to disqualify several nominees to fill vacancies on the Fifth and Sixth District courts of appeal, claiming they failed to meet residency requirements when the judicial nominating commissions forwarded their names to Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The two emergency petitions were filed November 17 by attorney Whitney S. Boan and Sen. Geraldine Thompson, D-Orlando. They name the Fifth District Court of Appeal JNC and its chair, Joseph Jacquot, and the Sixth District Court of Appeal JNC, and its chair, Jeffrey Aaron, respectively.
