A proposal to eliminate “permanent” alimony is headed to the Senate floor, over the strenuous objection of the Family Law Section and other critics.

The Senate Rules Committee voted 10 to 5 on March 1 to approve SB 1796 by Sen. Joe Gruters, R-Sarasota.

“This bill is the fairest and most reasonable alimony reform bill that has been presented to the Legislature,” Gruters said.
