Navigation Animal Law Section recognizes Rep. Chaney with Distinguished Legislator Award
Rep. Linda Chaney accepts the Animal Law Section’s Distinguished Legislator Achievement Award, recognizing her leadership in passing laws such as Dexter’s Law and Trooper’s Law, which strengthen protections for animals and hold abusers accountable across Florida. Florida Rep. Linda Chaney, R-St. Pete Beach, recently received The Florida Bar Animal Law Section’s annual Distinguished Legislator Achievement Award for her dedicated work protecting animals in Florida.
Rep. Chaney sponsored “Dexter’s Law,” which created a statewide database of animal abusers and strengthened penalties for animal cruelty, increasing the likelihood that offenders would face prison time. She also helped sponsor “Trooper’s Law,” making it a felony to restrain and abandon dogs outdoors during a declared disaster or evacuation, ensuring pets receive better protection in emergencies.
