Animal Law Section honors Judge Dempsey with Judicial Achievement Award
SECOND CIRCUIT JUDGE ANGELA DEMPSEY, right, was the recipient of the Animal Law Section’s 2021 Judicial Achievement Award. The award was created to recognize the contributions of judges in Florida to animal law. Specifically, the section recognized Judge Dempsey for her support of the Animal Law Section’s core mission — to educate the Bar and public on legal issues affecting animals. Judge Dempsey has supported section efforts to bring canines into the courtroom under the Animal Therapy Program at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Judge Dempsey also organized and co-taught, along with Ralph A. DeMeo, center, the first-ever session on animal law at the annual Florida Conference of Circuit Judges. She also supports the Animal Law Section’s continuing judicial education programs on animal law in the Second Circuit. Judge Dempsey is the second judge in the Second Circuit to be recognized, the first being the award’s inaugural winner, Judge Jimmy Hankinson.
