The Administrative Law Section’s Division of Administrative Hearings Trial Academy, an intense, week-long course intended to simulate real administrative hearing and teach litigation skills, is underway this week at DOAH’s Tallahassee headquarters.

The program began Monday with an address from Administrative Law Judge Brian Newman, chair of the Trial Academy. The students were then divided into teams and spent the week in intensive workshops and mock hearings.

Topics covered include opening statements, effective depositions, how to offer evidence, objections, formulating a direct examination strategy, the art of cross examination, and persuasive proposed recommended orders.
