Legal Services Corporation is warning that 130,500 fewer Floridians would receive help with their legal problems under a congressional proposal to slash its $560 million budget by nearly half.

“The proposed cut to LSC would severely limit the ability of LSC-funded legal services to assist everyday Americans who are faced with devastating legal problems but cannot afford an attorney,” LSC President Ron Flagg said in a statement.

The House Appropriations Subcommittee proposal for a 46% cut would take LSC back to 1999 funding levels, the group said.
