Navigation Phishing scams continue to Scheme targets Florida firms
The Florida Bar has been alerted to a new wave of phishing emails targeting law firms — particularly smaller practices — in an apparent scheme to gather sensitive information and impersonate attorneys.
A Winter Park lawyer recently received a series of suspicious emails purporting to come from executives at “Aero Medical, Inc.” and the “IMA Group.” The emails — which began on June 9 — claimed to seek legal counsel for multimillion-dollar financing deals involving clinical trials and medical equipment expansion.
The senders requested fee structures, retainer agreements, and engagement terms, allegedly to move quickly on the transaction. Their messages were professional in tone, but red flags included:
