A routine shopping trip turned into a legal battle when a woman slipped and fell at a grocery store, leading to a lawsuit against the retailer. Michele Lopez filed a complaint in the Circuit Court of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, on May 1, 2025, accusing ALDI (Florida) L.L.C. of negligence that resulted in her injury.

The case revolves around an incident that occurred on October 20, 2024, when Michele Lopez visited an ALDI store located at 1233 W Lantana Road in Lantana, Florida. According to the complaint, Lopez was lawfully on the premises as a business invitee when she unexpectedly slipped and fell due to plastic and cardboard packaging materials left on the floor near the cash register. The plaintiff asserts that ALDI had actual knowledge of these hazardous materials or should have known about them through reasonable care since they were present for an extended period or appeared regularly enough to be foreseeable.

Lopez’s complaint outlines several allegations against ALDI. It claims that the defendant failed to maintain its premises in a reasonably safe condition and neglected to warn her of latent dangers unknown to her but should have been known by ALDI. The suit accuses ALDI of creating or allowing hazardous conditions to exist, failing to inspect and correct such conditions adequately, and not providing necessary warnings about potential dangers. As a result of this alleged negligence, Lopez sustained injuries described as permanent and affecting her physical and mental well-being.
