A Pinellas County resident has taken legal action against a local sports association, alleging negligence that resulted in significant personal injuries. On April 14, 2025, Mary Schwegman filed a complaint in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in and for Pinellas County, Florida, against Upper Pinellas Youth Sports Association, Inc.

The case revolves around an incident that occurred on May 2, 2023, when Schwegman visited the premises of Upper Pinellas Youth Sports Association as a business invitee. The plaintiff claims that while on the property located at 3555 Old Keystone Rd, Tarpon Springs, she sustained injuries after hitting her head on an extended post of the bleacher stands. According to the complaint, Schwegman was lawfully present on the premises and asserts that the defendant owed her a duty to maintain a safe environment free from obstructions or dangerous conditions.

In her lawsuit, Schwegman accuses Upper Pinellas Youth Sports Association of multiple counts of negligence. She alleges that the association failed to adequately maintain and inspect the bleacher stands’ posts, which created an unreasonably dangerous condition. Furthermore, she contends that they neglected to warn her about these hazards despite knowing or reasonably should have known about them. The complaint details several specific allegations including failing to correct or replace hazardous conditions and not having sufficient staff to ensure safety measures were in place.
