Nursing Home Accused of Negligence Leading to Resident’s Death
A harrowing case of alleged neglect and abuse has emerged from a nursing home in Pinellas County, Florida. On February 13, 2025, Antwain Scott filed a complaint in the Circuit Court of the 6th Judicial Circuit against FL The Abbey LLC, doing business as The Abbey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. The lawsuit claims that gross negligence at the facility led to the suffering and eventual death of Flossie E. Williams.
The plaintiff, Antwain Scott, who serves as the personal representative of his late mother Flossie E. Williams’ estate, alleges that The Abbey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center failed to provide adequate care for Williams during her stay beginning on February 14, 2023. According to the complaint, Williams was an elderly resident with conditions that made her vulnerable to pressure ulcers, malnutrition, infection, and dehydration. Scott contends that the nursing home’s staff did not develop an adequate care plan or properly monitor Williams’ condition, leading to severe health deterioration.
The lawsuit details several specific accusations against The Abbey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. It claims that employees neglected to follow doctors’ orders or utilize appropriate safety devices to prevent Williams from developing pressure ulcers and other complications. As a result of these alleged failures, Williams suffered significant weight loss, dehydration, infections, and ultimately passed away on December 13, 2024. “The Abbey’s negligent acts and omissions directly caused my mother’s decline,” Scott asserts in the filing.
