Carryona Scott has filed a lawsuit against a major grocery chain, alleging negligence that led to her injury. The complaint was filed by Scott in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, on January 6, 2025, naming Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. as the defendant.

According to the court documents, Carryona Scott was injured on January 24, 2024, when she slipped and fell at a Winn-Dixie store located at 1491 South Dixie Highway in Lantana, Florida. As a business invitee on the premises, Scott claims that Winn-Dixie had a duty to maintain its property in a reasonably safe condition and protect her from any dangers they were or should have been aware of. The lawsuit alleges that Winn-Dixie’s negligence directly led to her injuries. The complaint details several ways in which Winn-Dixie allegedly breached its duty of care. These include creating the hazardous condition that caused Scott’s fall, failing to maintain their premises safely, allowing the dangerous condition to persist for an unreasonable length of time without addressing it or warning customers like Scott. Additionally, it is claimed that the store failed to properly manage liquid containers and clean up spills promptly.

The legal filing states that as a result of this negligence, Scott suffered bodily injury along with pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, impairment of working ability, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses for treatment and hospitalization, loss of earnings and future earning capacity. These losses are described as permanent or continuing in nature.
