Judicial Advisory Council pushes for pro bono training, lawyer support for self-represented litigants
A relatively new panel of judges is recruiting volunteer lawyers to help pro se litigants — including domestic violence victims — as part of a larger effort to serve the community and help conserve judicial resources, its chair told the Board of Governors last week.
At a December 13 board meeting in St. Augustine, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Don Brown said the panel was formed in 2023 by U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Catherine McEwen and Tampa attorney Kathleen McLeroy, both veteran co-chairs of the Pro Bono Legal Services Committee.
The Judicial Advisory Council to The Florida Bar Standing Committee on Pro Bono Legal Services, is comprised of 15 state and federal trial and appellate judges from across Florida, Brown said.
