Business leaders, insurance executives, and state regulators are urging Florida lawmakers not to repeal or water down recent “tort reforms” in the March session so a fragile market has more time to recover.

“The reforms passed by the Legislature truly brought the industry back from the brink of collapse, that is no exaggeration,” said Citizens Property Insurance CEO Tim Cerio. “We have to fight to maintain them, because they are working.”

Meeting this week in Orlando for the Florida Chamber 2024 Insurance Summit, experts came armed with figures that show insurance-related litigation declined by double digits in the past year, and soaring premium increases are beginning to ebb.
