Plaintiff alleges Starbucks Corporation’s Negligence Led to Injury
Aria Calisi has filed a lawsuit against a major coffeehouse chain, claiming negligence after an incident that left her injured. The complaint was filed by Calisi on October 22, 2024, in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, targeting Starbucks Corporation.
The case revolves around an incident that occurred on August 9, 2022, when Aria Calisi visited a Starbucks location at 20518 S State Rd 7 in Boca Raton, Florida. According to the complaint, while exercising due care and caution for her safety, Calisi purchased a hot coffee. However, she alleges that the lid was unsecured or malfunctioning, causing the coffee to spill and burn her hand. The lawsuit accuses Starbucks Corporation of negligence for failing to secure the lid properly and not addressing previous complaints about similar issues with their lids.
Calisi’s legal team argues that Starbucks had a duty of reasonable care to prevent foreseeable risks of harm to its customers. They assert that the company breached this duty by not taking corrective action despite being aware of multiple complaints regarding malfunctioning lids. Furthermore, they claim that Starbucks failed to warn customers about the potential danger posed by these lids.
