A Pinellas County resident is seeking justice after a traumatic dog attack left him with severe injuries. Barry Owens filed a negligence complaint against Damect Dominguez in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in and for Pinellas County, Florida, on August 12, 2024.

According to the complaint, Owens was attending a CrossFit Competition in Dunedin, Florida, on April 13, 2024, when he was attacked by Dominguez’s dog. The lawsuit claims that Dominguez failed to exercise reasonable care in controlling his dog, which resulted in Owens sustaining severe and permanent injuries. The plaintiff alleges that Dominguez neglected his duty by not keeping the dog on a leash and failing to warn others about its tendencies and behavior.

The complaint details how Dominguez’s alleged negligence led to Owens suffering injuries to his head, neck, body, back, hips, and limbs. It also aggravated a pre-existing condition. “As a direct and proximate result of the aforementioned negligent acts of the Defendant,” the complaint states, “the Plaintiff has been permanently injured.” The filing goes on to describe how these injuries have caused Owens significant mental and physical pain and suffering. He has also experienced loss of earnings and will continue to face reduced earning capacity due to the permanent nature of his injuries.
