A slip-and-fall incident at a well-known retail store has led to a significant legal battle. On July 1, 2024, Joanne Sabre filed a complaint in the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, against Wal Mart Stores East, LP, doing business as Walmart Superstore.

The case revolves around an incident that occurred on October 9, 2021. According to the complaint, Sabre was shopping at the Walmart Superstore located at 2144 West Indiantown Road in Jupiter, Palm Beach County when she slipped and fell due to a slippery surface in the vestibule area of the store. The plaintiff alleges that Walmart failed to provide adequate warnings or take necessary precautions to prevent such hazardous conditions. Sabre claims that there was no visible floormat at the entrance of the vestibule, which created a dangerous situation leading to her fall.

The lawsuit details several allegations against Walmart. It accuses the retail giant of negligence for not maintaining a safe environment for its customers. Specifically, it states that Walmart did not properly inspect or maintain its premises and failed to warn customers about potential hazards. “The slippery surface that caused Plaintiff to slip and fall was neither visible, discernable nor obvious to the public and to Plaintiff,” reads one part of the complaint.
