COLBAR gains international momentum
A Colombian American Bar Association sponsored international law seminar in Medellin drew more than 150 members of the Colombian legal community. The two-day event also featured meetings with the Medellin Chamber of Commerce, and a regional development agency whose mission is to promote transnational investments. In addition to cementing valuable contacts, the seminar gained COLBAR another 10 international members, said President Paula Arias, a University of Miami law professor.
The Colombian American Bar Association, launched in 1995 by a handful of South Florida lawyers, is experiencing a renaissance.
“In the past four years, its membership has grown from 25-30 members to more than 150, with many members from all over the United States and increasingly abroad,” says Miami attorney Alexander Lian, a past COLBAR president.
