A recent court filing has brought to light a serious incident involving a slip and fall at a grocery store, leading to significant injuries for the plaintiff. On June 20, 2024, Renee Pechonis filed a complaint in the Circuit Court of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida against ALDI (Florida) L.L.C., alleging negligence on the part of the retail giant.

According to the complaint, Pechonis was shopping at an ALDI store located at 4901 North Federal Highway in Boca Raton on March 11, 2024, when she slipped and fell due to a wet and slippery substance near the front of the store. The lawsuit claims that ALDI failed to maintain its premises in a safe condition and neglected to warn customers about potential hazards. “Defendant owed a non-delegable duty to maintain the common areas of the subject premises in a reasonably safe and proper condition,” states the complaint.

Pechonis alleges that ALDI’s employees were aware or should have been aware of the dangerous condition but did nothing to remedy it or warn her about it. The complaint details multiple failures on ALDI’s part, including allowing hazardous substances to accumulate on the floor, failing to inspect and maintain safe conditions, and not placing adequate warning signs or barriers around dangerous areas. The lawsuit further accuses ALDI of having inadequate policies for dealing with such hazards and failing to train their staff properly.
