Plaintiff sues geriatric care facility over slip-and-fall incident
A slip-and-fall incident at a geriatric care facility has led to a lawsuit seeking damages exceeding $50,000. Lucas Day Brown filed the complaint against Lourdes-Noreen McKeen Residence and Lourdes-Noreen McKeen Residence for Geriatric Care, Inc. in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida on June 17, 2024.
According to the complaint, on March 15, 2023, Lucas Day Brown was visiting his mother at the Lourdes-Noreen McKeen Residence located at 315 S Flagler Dr., West Palm Beach. During his visit, Brown allegedly slipped and fell in a hallway due to water pooled on the floor. The plaintiff claims that the defendants failed to maintain a safe environment for their business invitees by not addressing or warning about the hazardous condition.
The lawsuit accuses both entities of negligence. It states that they “owed to its business invitees a duty to provide a reasonably safe environment” but breached this duty by failing to maintain the premises properly. Specific allegations include not keeping the floor dry, not warning visitors of potential dangers, and neglecting to place signs or barricades alerting people about the wet floor. The complaint also asserts that these conditions had existed long enough for the defendants to be aware and remedy them.
